Frequently Asked
Questions

We’ve compiled a list below of the most common dental related questions we receive. If you have a concern not addressed here please let us know. We are always looking to improve our Q&A and make it more helpful.

Why should I choose dental care abroad?

This answer is easy – cost and quality. When calculating the cost of dental care abroad you need to compare apples to apples. A dental implant in the UK can cost up to £2,500 ($4,000 in the USA), but at My Dental Tourism clinic, you will pay only 600-750€ for a Premium implant with 10 years to a lifetime warranty.
Crowns, bridges, and veneers are also much less expensive. For example, an all-ceramic crown and porcelain veneer cost just 250€ each.
Again, you can expect to pay 70-80% more in the UK and the other west European countries. We offer initial quotes by email so the more information you give us the better the quote.
At My Dental Tourism all X-rays, consultation and examinations are free!

Most complex treatments can be completed in 2 to 3 months depending on healing time, and of course, our materials are of the highest quality.
We have installed thousands of dental implants, crowns, bridges, and veneers since the beginning of his career.
Perhaps you just need a root canal or other one-day treatment(s). Whatever your dental needs are, My Dental Tourism can help you in a pain free environment.

Can I get an experienced dentist?

Yes, at My Dental Tourism our premier dentist and specialist in oral surgery and implantology has been working with Italian, German, UK, Greek and Irish patients since 2005 and treats all our foreign patients. He has performed over 2.500 dental implants with a rate of success of 99,8%.

My doctor recommended a different plan from the one you suggested. How do I know which is the right one?
Any dental problem can really be solved in a number of ways. Therefore, it is not impossible for both treatment options to be acceptable from a professional point of view. It is the patient’s right and obligation to ask anything he/she wants to know before accepting a particular treatment. It is our task to give you as precise and reliable information as possible.
How do I know the materials are good quality?
At My Dental Tourism we use only the best quality CE certified products and before you arrive we will let you know what products we will be using. After the treatment, every patient receives all the certificates of quality for the products used in the treatments, signed by the laboratory and our doctor. If you are comparing our products to the products used and offered by your dentist please make sure you are comparing apples to apples, not apples and oranges. We’ll tell you about our products so you can make sure you have the same information from your local dentist.
How much does it cost for travel, accommodations and transports?
We have apartments in the center of the town for a reasonable price and have arrangements with local hotels. Most costs are around 25-40€ for a night in an apartment in the center of the city. The hotel starts at 30€ per night. Transportation to and from Tirana airport and from the apartment to the clinic is FREE. The time of stay depends on the treatment. Even with expenses for accommodation and travel your savings choosing My Dental Tourism will still be good, around 70-80%.
This all sounds good, but I am still not sure about the cost of dental care abroad?
Choosing My Dental Tourism means there are no hidden costs. For, example the quote for the dental implants is fixed as the cost of the crowns, bridges, fillings, extractions etc. We are very clear about what treatments we are providing, the products we are using, how long will it take and how many visits over what period of time. The consultations with us and all X-rays are also free.

I was told I cannot have implants because I do not have enough bone in my jaw. How can I be sure this is really my case?
As in all other diagnoses, several opinions are welcome. Implant dentistry sometimes borders with the experience of the doctor performing implant dentistry. A large number of successfully placed implants means that the doctor has encountered not-so-simple procedures or procedures which require unorthodox solutions. Bone defects that are a direct consequence of periodontitis can be regenerated. This is achieved by restructuring the lost bone. However, this approach is only valid for certain types of defects. The procedure is done using microsurgical techniques, after appropriate preparation of the patient and only if the actual inflammation had been previously removed. The defect is cleaned and disinfected. After that, the biologically active substances are placed in order to favor the creation of new bone substance and other supportive tissues. Artificial bone can be added if needed. When dealing with larger defects, the procedure includes filling the defects with artificial bone and covering them with membrane subsequently.
Is it possible to have a tooth extracted and an implant placed in one visit?
Yes, it is possible, but not always. The doctor makes the decision during the procedure. One implant is installed in maximum of 30 minutes.
I am missing several teeth, do they each have to be replaced with a separate implant?
No. If you are missing several teeth they do not each has to be replaced with a separate dental implant. Although implants are artificial roots, one implant can be used to replace one or more teeth by attaching bridgework to the implant. Each patient’s needs vary and the number of implants needed for any particular patient will be determined by a number of clinical factors.
I do not like the color of my teeth. What can I do about it?
Tooth whitening is only one of the techniques which can be used to improve your teeth’s aesthetic appearance. Depending on their color, size, and distribution, other aesthetic procedures are also possible, first and foremost, porcelain veneers and ceramic crowns. Visit us without obligation and find out which solution would be best in your case.
How to prepare for the oral cavity operation?
No panic. Surely there are more desirable situations than lying helplessly in a dentist chair with your mouth wide open listening to background noises. Oral cavity operations are indeed unpleasant, however, they are painless. Still, caution is needed: local anesthesia does not rule out the feeling of pressure. However, the pressure is not pain and if you are prepared to that particular sensation, you will cope more easily with the operation. After all, it’s all in the head, right?
How to get preapred?
  • Depending on the difficulty of the intervention, keep in mind that several days prior to the operation as well as for several days after the operation you should not strain yourself physically or talk excessively.
  • Fill your fridge: baby food, soups and any kind of food that can be cut into tiny pieces or mashed.
  • Add an extra pillow. Higher head position will help diminish the swelling.
  • Prepare some cooling compresses. Post-operative cooling diminishes the swelling and alleviates the pain. Apply the compresses at intervals and don’t put cold objects directly on the face – wrap them in a cloth.
  • Pay a visit to the pharmacy: during the consultation interview write down the advice on the post operation period. Buy a 0,12% CHX rinsing solution and some painkillers (Ibuprofen or Analgin e.g.). Pick up a lip care cream as well – vaseline or similar.
  • Supply yourself with some gauze swabs. After the operation there is a hemorrhage risk, and it can be stopped easily by putting some pressure on the bleeding spot. The longer the pressure, the better. Paper tissues are not suitable because they tend to fall apart and tiny pieces can get to the wound. Oral cavity hemorrhages usually appear more serious than they really are: blood mixing with saliva can give a sensation of a much more substantial hemorrhage. In no case should you rinse your mouth if it’s bleeding!
  • A week before and after the operation you shouldn’t take any painkillers containing ASS (typical ASS based painkiller: Aspirin) since they increase the risk of hemorrhage.
  • Bring a list of medicines that you usually take to the consultation interview.
  • DO NOT SMOKE! You can only smoke if it truly doesn’t matter to you whether the operation should have a successful outcome or not.
  • Organize your transport. Not only do local anesthesia and painkillers diminish the concentration but the stressful situation itself has a negative effect on psychomotor abilities.
  • Wear simple and comfortable clothes.
  • After the third day an improvement is to be felt. If the pain and the swelling should continue, don’t hesitate to contact your doctor.
  • And trust us: after the surgery had been done, almost every patient claims that the worst aspect was the fear prior to the surgery!
